Manas National Park along with Barnadi Wildlife Sanctuary along with the buffer areas represents a unique Tropical Humid Forest Biome under Brahamputra valley province of the biogeographic zonation of India, in the Indo-Malayan realm.

The entire reserve is spread along the Himalayan foot hills in the north of Brahamputra valley, in a linear belt of about 40 kms wide at the broadest portion in the west and gradually narrowing in the east. The reserve encompasses Reserve Forests, National Park, Wildlife Sanctuary, Civil districts and village owned forest, alluvial savannah woodlands and alluvial grasslands.
